Ingredients
For the Butter Batter:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the Drink:
2 cups boiling water
1 cup dark rum
Whipped cream (optional, for garnish)
Ground cinnamon or nutmeg (for garnish)

Instructions
1. Make the Butter Batter:
In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, ginger, salt, and vanilla. Mix well until smooth and creamy.
Transfer the batter to a small jar or container and refrigerate until ready to use. (It keeps well for up to a week.)
2. Prepare the Drinks:
In each mug, add 1-2 tablespoons of the butter batter.
Pour in 1/4 cup of dark rum.
Top with 1/2 cup of boiling water and stir until the batter melts and the mixture is smooth.
3. Garnish and Serve:
If desired, top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg.
